Interview with Rev. Eleanor Fleming
Q. What is the mission of the New Foundation?
A. To provide an education for expanding consciousness. If we want to do the “greater works” that Jesus promised and the Fillmores demonstrated, then we have to create the consciousness that made that possible. What has been done once can be done again.
Q. What makes the New Foundation Unity unique?
A. At this point in its development, New Foundation is an educational ministry rather than a church. It is a traveling ministry and tours different parts of the country, offering its programs to those Unity churches who request it for their own spiritual enrichment and renewal. Its uniqueness is that it provides a variety of classes and workshops for unfolding full spiritual potential in an orderly and concentrated manner.
Q. What inspired you to start this ministry?
A. After Myrtle Fillmore’s complete healing, she shared her knowledge and experience with others. Her ministry, like that of Jesus, healed the lame, the deaf, the blind. The New Foundation Unity restores spiritual healing by reminding people that they are already whole, and that healing is a process of releasing the blocks to that wholeness.
Q. What kinds of programs does the New Foundation have to offer?
A. There are three basic areas of classes and workshops. The first is silent meditation, called Practicing the Silence, a foundational spiritual tool for expanding consciousness and experiencing the depths of one’s own Being. Second, the New Foundation Unity offers a richly diverse curriculum of metaphysical Bible interpretation that provides inspiration, insight and understanding of experiences in the Silence and in application to everyday life. The third area is healing. Several classes and workshops are offered in practical application of the healing arts, such as the Healing Oils of Ancient Scripture and The Usui System of Reiki healing. A course in weaving is also planned for the future.
Q. Why weaving?
A. Any activity has the potential for integrating the silence of our inner being with our outer action. Weaving is a process of integrating two sets of threads--the non-changing warp with the changing weft, resulting in a fabric of wholeness. Weaving teaches us that meditation and activity are both important. Activity without silence is unfruitful and depleting, and silence without activity is not integrated.
Q. What in your background has prepared you for this ministry?
A. Thirty-one years of teaching a silent meditation, twenty-two years in Unity, five as an ordained minister, twelve years of teaching Reiki classes, and ten years of studying essential oils as part of my doctorate in Energy Medicine have helped me integrate these spiritual practices into the New Foundation philosophy and program.
Q. How will you gauge your success in this ministry?
A. Simply, by a general awakening in the world to the Truth that we have access to an infinite source of substance, intelligence, and life--all that we need right where we are to overcome any challenges and bring forth heaven on to earth.
Q. What has the New Foundation accomplished so far?
A. The New Foundation has developed a workshop entitled Myrtle Fillmore’s Healing Legacy, which has inspired people to re-connect to their Unity roots and to do the inner work that made such a ministry possible.
